MUSIC FOR WEIRDOS

Chris Swank, a very kind and generous Maniac, has compiled four-count 'em-FOUR cds worth of wonderful tuneage: novelty, outsider, garage rock, celebrities, New Wave oddities, mashups, space age/Moog, and general weirdness, including plenty of songs that were originally posted here, but have since gone off-line.

He put these together just for his friends and fave bloggers, but has agreed to make it available for all y'alls. Be sure to thank him in comments!

Thanks, everybody, for the compliments. I was a bit apprehensive about posting these things in what I think is a somewhat more public place than where I've usually posted these, but I'm happy they met with a positive reception. If it's OK I may decide to post any upcoming volumes here if it's cool.

Thanks Chris, was just organizing/tagging various WFMU-found tracks today and was reminded I hadn't visited the 'Maniac' for a while...great surprise to find the 'box', can't wait to check it out!

I do believe that this is some of the most wonderful music I have heard in a long time. As far as I am concerned, you are more than welcome to post anything here at any time.

im kinda hooked on one of the songs: abcn76.mp3 .. any chance you can shed some light on author/title ?

Anonymous said...

Most of the songs dont have the artists, where can I find them?

Looks like I have a couple of things to answer here, so I just hope my answers are satisfactory.
To the first anonymous person, the file named ABCN76 is a piece of production music that was used to open the ABC Evening News back in 1976. Not sure what library it is or the title, but I nabbed it from a site all about music used as openers and bumpers for news, and I took the RealAudio file and converted it to MP3.

To the second anonymous person, I'm not sure where you can find artist info, as when I do these, I guess my priority is to just pick out the music and sort it. I like to just let the music speak for itself and I tend not to do anything like write up notes or try to come up with cover art or any of that sort of thing. This is just a little fun thing I like to do in the name of sharing tunes, and I'd rather not make it too much work if I can help it. So anyone wanting to do further research on the tracks might have to just do all that for themselves. I hope you understand and hope you don't think I'm being a jerk about it or anything, but I guess I don't want to play with the files too much once I get them. Just pick 'em out and sort 'em and zip 'em and upload 'em. I used to do compilations on tape and usually never supplied even a playlist.

Okay, dumb question....now that MegaUpLoad bit the bust, I assume this Music For Weirdos comp is gone for good and there's no other links for this?

Oh, and thanks for the LAX Theme building background. This forced me to relive my airport-rat days....for good and ill.

Ahoy, Don-O! Just checked my (one good last remaining) harddrive and yes! I have these, all 4 vols. Might take a bit but I'll get 'em up eventually.

Are any of these working for anyone?

I tried to download them but all 4 are out.

I've heard this is the best thing on this blog and am dying to hear this!

Josh, I did get another request for these recently, I dug 'em out, its just a matter of uploading 'em, linking them to the blog and all that. I'll try to get to it soon.
